This famous upcountry town is situated 1868 meters (6128 feet) above sea level and is in the NuwaraEliya District. Due to it’s high altitude, it has a Sub Tropical Highland climate. The average annual temperature varies between 11-20 C° and the recorded lowest temperature is 0.4 C° and the recorded highest temperature is 27.7 C°. Monthly rainfall varies between 70-225 mm and has an average annual rainfall figure or precipitation of 1900 mm.Blesseda with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery; it’s hard to imagine that NuwaraEliya is only 180 Km from the hot and humid Colombo.

NuwaraEliya (City of Lights), also known as ‘Little’ England’, was the favorite hill station of the British who tried to create NuwaraEliya into a typical English Village. The old brick Post office, country house like hill club, with its hunting pictures, mounted hunting trophies and fish, and it’s strict formal dinner attire; the 18 hole golf course, race course etc., all remind you of ‘England’.
